Many people dream of a complete career change: a different life, in a different place. Eighteen years ago, we took that step.

We were looking for an estate among the Loire castles to develop a charming chambres & tables d’hôtes. In Couddes we found Le Voriou, a former wine farm on an exceptional location, close to some of the most famous Loire castles, such as Chambord, Chenonceau, Cheverny, Amboise and Valençay. Just 15 minutes from ZooParc de Beauval, the most visited zoo in France with more than 2 million visitors annually, and in a region benefiting from the strong growth of cycling tourism. The Loire Valley has invested heavily in recent years in an extensive network of cycle routes, which particularly appeals to Belgian and Dutch visitors.

In 2009 we started a thorough renovation of the estate, with the aim of creating a comfortable and atmospheric chambres & tables d’hôtes with five spacious guest rooms. The roof section of the guesthouse was completely renewed. All openings (windows and doors), electricity, sewage, water supply, floors,... were renewed. We chose “geothermal energy”: converting earth heat into underfloor heating and hot water supply for the entire guesthouse.

After these renovations, we had the pleasure of welcoming guests from various countries for many years. Some encounters were one-off, others grew into lasting friendships. Offering the table d’hôtes played an important role in this. Sharing a meal with fresh local products and exchanging stories with guests from near and far is the very essence of a chambres d’hôtes.

Today a new phase begins for us. For health reasons, we are looking for enthusiastic people who wish to continue and further develop this beautiful project.
